Different Flags by Eugenia Renskoff

Different Flags, a book by Eugenia Renskoff, tells the story of 26-year-old Ani. Ani leaves her comfortable but stifling life in San Francisco to travel to Argentina to comfort her widowed Aunt Esther. Once back in her native country, Ani must face her unexpected feelings of love for Padre Luis, her aunt's young and handsome parish priest. Different Flags is a study of Ani's inner conflict.

Enthusiam

May 18,1986: No, it can´t be the way it was before. I need to be enthused by something again, something big--or something small. I don´t care which, as long as it lets me be passionate, the way I used to be. Luis showed me what passion is like.

Labor

May 1,1986;It´s Labor Day in Argentina. My Tia has been such a worker all her life, almost to the oint of great self sacrifice. Now all that effort has turned against her and her health has been paying the price.

Dreams

April 28, 1986: Quite a nice dream! My Tia and I were not here, in the new neighborhood. We had been able to stay in San Vicente and Luis and I were married. In fact, he and I had just come back from our honeymoon. My Tia was living in the house next door. Her dog was like another member of the family--our new, little family.
My husband and I understood each other without words. We had our eyes. We had our love.
