Different Flags by Eugenia Renskoff

Different Flags, a book by Eugenia Renskoff, tells the story of 26-year-old Ani. Ani leaves her comfortable but stifling life in San Francisco to travel to Argentina to comfort her widowed Aunt Esther. Once back in her native country, Ani must face her unexpected feelings of love for Padre Luis, her aunt's young and handsome parish priest. Different Flags is a study of Ani's inner conflict.

Maybe

July 1, 1987: I may have found a solution for my Tia's (and mine) housing problem. She must be as sick of not having a place to be comfortable in as I am.

Nowhere Us

June 30, 1987 I have the feeling that my Tia and I see ourselves as nowhere people, people with no homes anywhere. Ever. We are here to there, there to here all the time.

Suitcase Time

June 18, 1987: My Tia and I have to find ourselves a new apt., a new home. Our landlord called this morning and he wants us to move. Didn't give a reason. Just has to be done. Where will we be? Why is this happening to my Tia? At least, I have the option of returning to San Francisco. She can't move from place to place at her age.

Alive!

June 1, 1987: Luis was the person who made me feel alive! It was a feeling of passion, something that had me waking up and taking notice of myself and the world. It had to do with sex, and also with my emotions, my feelings. Will I have this again? Ever? It is too great to forget, to just let go and pretend it never existed.
